OSM Thome has contributed to numerous green initiatives involving alternative fuels and innovative technologies. As a partner in the Green Shipping Programme (GSP), we show our dedication to sustainable logistics solutions, achieving profitable emission reductions, fostering green employment, enhancing competitiveness and exports, and securing a leading international position. The overarching aim is to reduce emissions and boost green competitiveness within the maritime industry. Under the auspices of GSP, OSM Thome has been the project owner for two ventures: the methanol conversion and life extension of a container feeder, and a feasibility study on utilizing advanced nuclear power aboard ships.
Additionally, OSM Thome is a member of NuProShip (Nuclear Propulsion of Merchant Ships), a nuclear research project conducted by NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) with support from the Norwegian Government. OSM Thome is also involved in the Nuclear Energy Maritime Organization (NEMO).
In 2016, OSM Thome managed the first vessel powered by methanol in collaboration with Marinvest and DNV, during which the methanol safety regulations were formulated.

The Green Shipping Programme (GSP)
The Green Shipping Programme (GSP), a public-private partnership, advances Norway’s maritime strategies to establish the world’s most efficient and environmentally friendly shipping. Launched in 2015 as the “Green Coastal Shipping Program,” GSP now includes over 120 private companies, 12 public observers, and receives funding from both the State and its members.
Nuclear Propulsion of Merchant Ships (NuProShip)
NuProShip is a groundbreaking research program focused on developing commercially viable, zero-emission nuclear propulsion for deep-sea ships. By leveraging Generation IV reactors for safety, efficiency, and scalability, it aims to deliver an innovative, subsidy-free solution for the maritime industry.
